Violin Tutorial
Can’t Help Falling in Love is one of the most well-known songs recorded by Elvis Presley. He released it in 1961 for the film Blue Hawaii.
The song was written by Hugo Peretti, Luigi Creatore, and George David Weiss, and the melody is based on an old French song, Plaisir d’amour.
Over the years, many artists have recorded their own versions, including popular covers by UB40 and A-Teens. Today, the song is a popular choice at weddings and special events, and its simple melody makes it a great choice for beginner violinists.

Practice Tips
Here are a few tips to help you learn this piece step by step
1 Key Signature: D Major
This song is in the key of D Major, which means we have F♯ and C♯ in the key signature. We play F♯ with a high 2nd finger on the D string, and C♯ with a high 2nd finger on the A string.
I recommend practicing the D Major scale and arpeggio before practicing the song. Doing this will help you memorize your finger placements and improve intonation.

2 Bowing and Tone
Imagine how Elvis would sing this song: everything sounds connected and warm. We can recreate that sound on the violin in a few ways:
- Focus on smooth, even detaché bow strokes to naturally connect each note to the next.
- Use long bows to match the vocal sound: more bow means a more consistent sound.
- Keep the bow steady (not too heavy or light, and not too fast or slow) to create a warm sound.
3 Rhythm
While this song follows a very steady tempo with simple half notes, quarter notes, and eighth notes, we also have a different type of rhythm: quarter note triplets.
Quarter note triplets are three quarter notes contained in a bracket labeled with a 3. We want to fit these three notes in the span of two beats. This means that technically each note will receive two thirds of a beat.
It can take a moment to become accustomed to this rhythm, so try it on the D Major scale: play each individual pitch of the scale as a group of quarter note triplets with a metronome set at a moderate pace for quarter note beats.
