Free Warmups for A Whole New World

Before learning a piece of music, it always helps to warm up with a scale. It helps to warm up with the same scale as the key you’ll be playing in.

Both arrangements of A Whole New World for violin are in the key of D Major, so that’s the scale I recommend warming up with.

Practice Tips for Playing A Whole New World on Violin

No matter which version you learn, here are some ways you can make the song sound beautiful on the violin.

1. Shape the melody with phrasing

Focus on where the phrases (or even the lyrics) grow in intensity and relax. Then add slight crescendos and decrescendos to make the phrasing happen.

2. Play with smooth bow changes

Keep your bow changes smooth for a soaring legato sound. Especially when you’re playing long notes, changing your bow direction smoothly will help everything sound sustained.

Keep your bow speed even to support a smooth, even tone.

3. Try adding vibrato

An emotional song like this sounds great with vibrato! After you’re comfortable playing the song and can reliably play it in tune, experiment with adding vibrato to the longest notes, and then to more and more notes later on.
