This song is so fun to play on the violin! To help as many of you learn it as I can, I’ve created two versions: a beginner arrangement in C Major, and an intermediate arrangement in A Major. The beginner version has more simple rhythms, while the intermediate arrangement has more syncopation.

Syncopation

One of the musical aspects of this song that make it so enjoyable to listen to is the syncopation: notes that happen in between beats or where you might not expect them to be.

Count your music carefully by subdividing, practicing slowly, and even clapping the rhythms first if needed. You can also mark where the beats are within the measures, and listen to my play throughs while following the sheet music. You can do this!

Bowing

Another fun aspect of the song is the snappy bowing. There’s a lot of staccato through the song, and using the correct bowing technique will help you bring out the right articulations and sounds!

For the staccato eighth notes, try to play off the string for a short, snappy staccato that still resonates. Use smooth detaché bow strokes for the main singing melody.
